En la teoría matemática intuitiva de conjuntos, el conjunto vacío se define como aquel en que no existe elemento alguno, los anglosajones lo llaman empty set, este término también sugiere un "escenario vacío", partiendo de estas dos premisas surge en plena Pandemia del Covid 19 la idea de fotografiar el destino turístico más cercano (extrapolarle a cualquier destino turístico del mundo) el sur de Gran Canaria como un conjunto vacío de "turistas". Estos turistas llenan los escenarios de mundos inventados para el placer hedonista de sol, playa y algo más. En un archipiélago que basa su riqueza en la industria del turismo, el Covid 19 ha sido el detonante de esta increíble situación. Fotografías que nos hacen reflexionar acerca de nuestro modelo productivo y la "arquitectura del sol".
In the intuitive mathematical theory of sets, the empty set is defined as that in which no element exists, the Anglo-Saxons call it empty set, this term also suggests an "empty stage", based on these two premises the idea arises in the middle of the Covid 19 Pandemic to photograph the tourist destination that is closest to me (extrapolate to any tourist destination in the world) the south of Gran Canaria as an empty set of the elements that we most appreciate in these latitudes, "the tourists". These tourists fill the scenarios of worlds invented for the hedonistic pleasure of sun, beach and something more. In an archipelago that bases its wealth on the tourism industry, Covid 19 has been the trigger for this incredible situation. Photographs that make us reflect on our production model and the "architecture of tourism".
Un proyecto nacido en plena pandemia, "1Km from you" es una salida creativa a la necesidad constante de fotografiar. Viviendo en una cueva (literalmente) de un barranco de la isla de Gran Canaria y sin vecinos "demasiado cerca", sin poder salir para hacer escapadas fotográficas a paisajes increíbles (debido a la pandemia del Covid19), he podido comprobar que hay todo un micro mundo que explorar a menos de 1kilómetro de radio. Utilizando nuevas herramientas en la toma de imágenes, en la edición y procesado y creando la mejor iluminación para cada situación, he conseguido extraer este catálogo de vegetación "próxima" que sigue reglas matemáticas en su crecimiento, el número phi de la sección áurea, la morfogénesis.
Algunas imágenes fueron tomadas desde ángulos cenitales con un dron para poder comprobar los efectos del crecimiento helicoidal que aprovecha el máximo asoleo, otras fueron tomadas de noche, algunas con la niebla que aparece en las inversiones térmicas del barranco, plantas que florecen una vez al año y mueren en menos de 6 horas. Este proyecto sigue vivo, e iré añadiendo nuevas fotografías con el propósito de hacer una exposición de estas fotografías en un formato mayor.
A project born in the middle of a pandemic, "1Km from you" is a creative outlet for the constant need to photograph. Living in a cave (literally) in a valley on the island of Gran Canaria and with no neighbours "too close", unable to go out for photographic escapades to incredible landscapes, I have been able to see that there is a whole micro world to explore within a radius of less than 1 kilometre (Covid19 Pandemic). By exploring new tools in image taking, editing and processing and creating the best lighting for each situation, I have managed to extract this catalogue of "nearby" vegetation.
Some images were taken from zenithal angles with a drone, others were taken at night, some with the fog that appears in the thermal inversions of the valley, plants that flower once a year and die in less than 6 hours. This project is still alive, and I will be adding new photographs with the aim of making an exhibition of these photographs on a large format.

La Técnica del Fotograbado:
Para llevar sus imágenes a otro nivel artístico, Daniel emplea la técnica del fotograbado que descubrió en una de sus visitas al MoMa de Nueva York, un proceso que combina la fotografía y el grabado en papel y que perfeccionó con el maestro Juan Lara de Ogami Press en Madrid. Esta técnica emplea placas fotosensibles a la luz ultravioleta (otra longitud de onda invisible para el ojo humano) para transferir sus fotografías a papel creando impresiones con una calidad y textura inigualables.
